Art Campaign - Summary for Clubs

Dear Coordinators and Leaders, we’re going to host an Art Campaign! That's right. The Art Campaign will gather artworks from each club culminating in an exhibition in 2019. This will be a fun way for Members to showcase their talent and be part of the wider Jesus Club mission. We’re also using the Art Campaign to gather more prayer and financial supporters. And of course, we want you to be involved.

Why an Art Campaign?

• Our Members are talented.

• Our Members love expressing themselves through art.

• A chance to show what our Members can do.

• A chance to show what Jesus Club is about.

• A way to bring together Members from various clubs around Sydney.

• A way to gather more supporters for this mission.

Theme

The theme is New Creation, which has a double meaning. First, by making artworks Members are making new creations. Second, New Creation refers to the Bible verse from 2 Corinthians 5:17, "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has gone, behold the new has come!". One of the Jesus Club Values is that people’s disabilities are an aspect of their lives but do not define their identity. Members' true identity is being new creations in Christ.

Timeline

2018 and first half of 2019: Clubs will be invited to create and contribute artworks. We really want each club to get excited and involved.

Midway of 2019: The campaign will be launched to the public by a website displaying the artworks and stories of the artists. We will also encourage clubs to display their artworks at their churches.

Later in 2019: A day-long exhibition will be held in a central Sydney location, most likely the Ryde region. It'll be a great chance for Members' families, friends and the general public to see what our Members can do.

What It Means for Clubs

In a nutshell, we'd love for your club to contribute artworks.

What we've got in mind for your artworks:
• Design at least 15 artworks with the theme of New Creation. It could mean caterpillars turning into butterflies, it could mean the resurrected Jesus or what Members love about creation. Merely creating an artwork fits in with our theme, so you can't go wrong.
• Use your creativity. There are no restrictions - you can make artworks as a group or individually, you can make sculptures, collages, paintings or drawings.
• Since the artworks are going to be exhibited to the public, we encourage clubs to use decent quality materials. For example, use acrylic rather than poster paint and high quality paper rather than butcher's paper.
• We've gathered art ideas to inspire you. Visit the Art Ideas page.

What else we have in mind:
• We've gathered some people to be Art Contacts. One of them will visit your club and explain to your Leaders what the Art Campaign is all about.
• The Contact will also return to your club at a later date to interview Members and take photos of them making artworks.
• Your Contact wants to help your club create great artworks. Discuss with them your ideas, questions or concerns.
• We've written a special series of 5 lessons for the Topic: New Creation, including making artworks during the usual craft time. Not only do we want Members to make artworks but we want them to learn what God has to say about the new creation.
• It's important that Members know that their artworks will be used for the purpose of the Art Campaign, which includes support-raising. We recommend that all clubs give this letter to Members and gain their written permission.
