Share God’s Love with People with Intellectual Disabilities

Jesus Club started in 2006 when it was noticed that few churches were reaching out to people with intellectual disabilities and teaching them the Bible. A simple 3 hour fortnightly program was set up with 7 people with disabilities showing up on the first night. Through word-of-mouth, the club grew and grew. Both Members and Leaders loved attending the club because it was a place where they could be themselves and be loved. Over time, other churches wanted to set up a similar program and elicited the help of Jesus Club. In 2013, new clubs were set up and today there are 12 clubs across NSW with plans for clubs beyond. So far Jesus Club has relied on generous grant organisations for financial support, but these funds will soon run out. We'd love more and more Christians to take up this mission and get involved by volunteering, praying and supporting financially.

Our aim is to make Jesus Christ known to people with intellectual disabilities by teaching the good news about Jesus Christ and forming genuine friendships.

Our vision is to see a culture change across churches so teaching the good news about Jesus Christ to people with disabilities is just as common as teaching scripture to children or running a youth group.

Our work is to help ordinary Christians run a fortnightly program of food, friendship and Bible-teaching. We provide churches with the support, training and resources to achieve this.

Our Goals for 2016-2021

1. Start Up New Clubs. In 2006, the first Jesus Club program was established. Over the past 5 years, we've used our knowledge and experience to help 11 churches across Sydney set up their own Jesus Club program.

2. Strengthen Existing Clubs. There are over 130 people with intellectual disabilities attending our clubs. A large part of our work is to help the existing network of clubs grow and improve.

3. Extend our Library. Barely any special-education Bible material exists across the world. Our vision is to create an extensive library of Bible lessons that can be used at Jesus Club and anywhere. We've created over 100 Bible lessons but want to significantly multiply this.
