In one of the most anticipated sessions of the day at Jesus Club Conference 2025, Rev. Bec Baines addressed a topic many leaders wrestle with at their church-based Jesus Clubs: sexuality and identity.
The room listened with deep respect as Bec explained how Jesus Club members often ask honest, vulnerable questions about relationships, bodies, boundaries, and identity — questions they may not feel safe asking anywhere else.
She shared how a member from Wollongong Jesus Club raised an important concern last year — and how that single moment sparked a collaborative effort involving Youthworks, Patricia Weerakoon, and a Christian publisher.
The result? A new easy-to-read sexuality resource for adults with intellectual disabilities — clear, biblical, accessible.
This, Bec explained, is what “Church Together” looks like: ministries collaborating, listening to members, and responding with love and theological integrity.
Delegates were deeply encouraged. One wrote, “There are things you don’t know you need to know — and you will learn those things too!” Another said simply: “Everything was useful for equipping us to do what we do.”
Bec reminded leaders that adults with intellectual disabilities are not immune to modern cultural pressures — but they often receive less guidance. Jesus Club can be a place where trustworthy Christian adults speak truth with grace.
The message was clear:
Our members deserve biblical teaching about sexuality that is accessible, safe, and shaped by God’s love.
As Jesus Club prepares to make this new resource available across all clubs, we invite you to help us continue producing biblically faithful, accessible materials.
👉 Your donation today equips Jesus Club members to navigate who they are and learn – in a way that they can understand - what God says about their identity.
Help Build Churches Where Everyone Belongs
Every week, adults with intellectual disabilities are hearing the gospel, making friends, growing in faith, and discovering they truly belong in God's family. Jesus Club exists so everyone can know and follow Jesus - but this ministry is only possible through generous supporters.
Your gift helps us:
- start new Jesus Clubs in more churches
- train volunteer leaders
- create accessible Bible lessons
- support families
- share the love of Jesus with adults who are often overlooked
Your generosity helps more people learn about God's love and find their place in His church.
