About Us

Jesus Club is a gospel mission that seeks to make Jesus Christ known to people with intellectual disabilities so they can enjoy friendship with God forever.

Started in 2006 at Christ Church Gladesville, with seven friends with intellectual disabilities (ID), whom our founder, Mel Fung, knew through her job as a support worker. Mel knew this mission had God's blessing as soon as her friends walked through that door - "It was magical."

Since 2013, this mission has expanded to other local churches, and the Jesus Club Ministries was established to start, train and equip churches to run their own Jesus Club program. Today, 18 churches minister to more than 200 people every fortnight and the network keeps growing.

Our members are adults from all walks of life. Some live alone, some with parents or friends. Some do paid work and some don’t. Our members have intellectual disabilities, such as Down Syndrome, autism, Fragile X Syndrome and Prader Willi Syndrome. Some of our members are literate, many are not. Some love to dance, most just love refreshments time.

Our leaders are Christians who volunteer at the fortnightly program. Some love chatting with members, others making yummy sandwiches. Some have prior experience in the disability field, but most don't. But one thing they share is a desire to see our members enjoy a friendship with God forever.

Our host churches are local churches that want to reach out to people with disabilities in their communities. A Jesus Club is sometimes run by a group of local churches. Some of the clubs have dozens of members but most clubs have between 5-15 members.

Our team

The Jesus Club Ministries is oversee by a committee made up of capable and passionate Christians who have a heart to help churches minister to people with intellectual disabilities.

Together, we can share Christ with every person

Jesus Club is founded on the belief that God is love and His love is for all mankind. It has informed our vision and mission for this organisation:

  • To help churches minister to people with intellectual disabilities (ID) by equipping them with the resources to start and operate their own disability ministry.
  • To make Jesus Christ known to adults with ID by sharing in words, the good news of Christ; and demonstrating in deed, by our genuine friendship with people of all abilities.

Three ways to get involved

Start a Club

We work closely with local churches to start and run Jesus Clubs, which help share God's good news effectively with people with intellectual disabilities.

Join a Club

Jesus Club is a loving church community for people with intellectual disabilities to learn and know the good news of Jesus Christ. We welcome anyone with an intellectual disability, and while we mainly cater for adults, some clubs also accept younger people.

Support by Giving

Our ministry relies entirely on the generosity of individuals and organisations who share our mission to reach out to people with intellectual disabilities. All monies go towards our work to start, train and equip Jesus Clubs with accessible Biblical resources.
